What is KYPCIS, and why is it needed?

The Kentucky Post-Critical Incident Seminar is a three-day seminar modeled after highly-successful programs developed by the FBI and South Carolina. These seminars are led by mental-health professionals trained to work with peace officers and are driven by a team of law enforcement and public safety dispatch peers who have experienced their own critical incidents and received training in Critical Incident Stress Management.

The development of this program fills a void in care for officers and dispatchers who currently are experiencing a lack of resources and support. Coping mechanisms often are negative, resulting in substance abuse, domestic issues, violence, and suicide. KYPCIS will offer law enforcement and dispatch professionals an avenue to properly manage the aftermath of critical incidents.

This seminar helped me greatly. I can really say it has changed my outlook on life itself. Talking to people who have been through the same struggles as I have, knowing I’m not alone and people actually care about me is really a great feeling.
